How do you know which mattress is right for you?
Did you know that memory foam was designed by NASA in the 1970s? Pretty neat huh? NASA was trying to find a more comfortable seating cushion that would absorb pressure, and memory foam is what they came up with.
Today, memory foam is being used to make some of the highest-selling mattresses. Even traditional spring mattresses usually include a layer or two of memory foam inside. Let’s look at why it’s become so popular in the last few years:
Con’s
Memory foam is a very dense material, and while that helps it retain shape and resist body impressions, some people have a difficult time adjusting to the feel of an all-foam bed. It doesn’t offer the buoyancy you may be accustomed to, but that can also be a benefit we’ll describe in the next section.
In the early days, memory foam was a much warmer sleeping surface as it tended to absorb and retain body heat. Today, most manufacturers have overcome the heat issue by infusing cooling gels into the foam and adding more ventilation. Very few customers experience any hot sleeping with the newer foam beds.
Pro’s
Memory foam is known for relieving pressure, because it molds to the shape of your body, giving proper posture support without ‘pushing back’. This also allows for optimal blood flow. It is often the top choice for people with muscle pain or chronic fatigue.
Remember that famous wine test? For anyone who sleeps with a partner, memory foam absorbs movement, so you won’t feel your partner moving throughout the night.
And almost all memory foam mattresses are hypoallergenic and resistant to dust mites making them perfect for Asthma or allergy sufferers. It's pretty easy to see why memory foam mattresses get the highest comfort rating among its competitors!
